Focus window toolbars

The toolbars available in the Focus window are as follows:

Project toolbar

The Project toolbar features tools you use to manage your project, such as creating a new project, saving a project, and more.

Button Name Description
New Project button New Project Create a new project.
Open button Open Open a project or, subsequently, add source images to a project.

Save button Save Save the active project.
Print button Print Print a selected item.

Items you can print include all images in a project, all images in a map, or individual images.

Window toolbar

The Window toolbar features tools you use to manage the Focus window, such as hiding and showing the control pane, or chaining one clone view to another.

Button Name Description
Control Pane button Control Pane Show and hide the control pane.
Chained Window button Open Chain one instance of a clone Focus window to another.

Maps toolbar

The Maps toolbar features tools you use when working with a map.

Button Name Description
New Map button New Map Add a new map.

New maps are displayed on the Maps tab, and added as the first map in the list. If necessary, you can drag a map to a new location.

New Area button New Area Add a new area.

New areas are displayed on the Maps tab, and added as the first area of a map. If necessary, you can drag an area to a new location.

Click the arrow beside New Area, and then click one of the following:
  • New Area: Create a traditional area that is an empty container that will adapt to the data you add subsequently.
  • New Basemap Area: Create an area that is preloaded with your defined basemap data.

Launch the Add Layer Wizard button Launch the Add Layer Wizard Open the Add Layer Wizard, in which you select and define the type of layer you want.

Clipboard toolbar

The Clipboard toolbar features tools you use cut, copy, and paste items, and to undo or redo the previous action.

Button Name Description
Cut Cut the selected item or items.
Copy Copy the selected item or items.
Paste Paste the cut or copied item or items.
Undo button Undo Cancel the last action.
Redo button Redo Restore the last action.

Zoom toolbar

The Zoom toolbar features tools you use to manage the magnification level and pan the view.

Button Name Description
Zoom to Overview button Zoom to Overview Adjust the magnification so that the entire image appears in the viewer.
Zoom Interactive button Zoom Interactive Drag a rectangle over the area you want to magnify.
Zoom In button Zoom In Increase the magnification incrementally, centered on the cursor.
You can also:
  • Rotate the wheel button forward.

    To increment the zoom by a factor of two, hold down the Ctrl key, and then rotate the wheel button forward.

  • Click a location or feature in the image, and then press Page Up.
Zoom Out button Zoom Out Decrease the magnification incrementally, centered on the cursor.
You can also:
  • Rotate the wheel button backward.

    To increment the zoom by a factor of two, hold down the Ctrl key, and then rotate the wheel button backward.

  • Click a location or feature in the image, and then press Page Down.
Zoom 1:1 button Zoom 1:1 Adjust the magnification so that one screen pixel displays one image pixel, centered on the cursor.
Pan button Pan Drag the image to view a specific area.
You can also:
  • Pan horizontally to the left and right by, while holding down the Shift key, rotating the wheel button forward and backward, respectively.
  • Pan vertically up and down by, while holding down the Alt key, rotating the wheel button forward and backward, respectively.
's button Named Regions Work with a custom view, or named region, of a map or image.

For more information about named regions, see Working with named regions.

Tip: At any time, and regardless of whether you have a zoom tool selected, you can rotate the mouse wheel forward to zoom in, and rotate the mouse wheel backward to zoom out.

Tools toolbar

The Tools toolbar features tools you use to manage the cursor position, report on and manage attributes, and take measurements.

Button Name Description
Cursor Control button Cursor Control Open the Cursor Control window, in which you can define the cursor position in different coordinate systems.

You can move the cursor in any of the supported coordinate systems by changing the associated coordinates.

Information Report button Information Report Open the Information Report window, in which you can select to display individual attributes of selected features for rasters, vectors, and charts.

Open the Attribute Manager button Open the Attribute Manager Open the Attribute Manager window, in which you can manage attributes, such as shapes.

For more information about the Attribute Manager window, see Working with the Attribute Manager.

Numeric Values Numeric Values Open the Numeric Values window, in which you can manage relationships between digital number (DN) values in various image bands at a specific pixel location.

Measurement Tools Measurement Tools Click to select a tool to measure a line, polygon, rectangle, or ellipse.

You can also select a unit of measure for lines, area, and angles.

Editing toolbar

The Editing toolbar features tools you use to modify imagery.

Button Name Description
Selection Tools button Selection Tools Select one or more points.

You can select points individually, in a circular selection area, or in an area you define.

Click the arrow beside Selection Tools, and then click one of the following:
  • Individual: Click a point to select it. To select a group of points, drag a selection area around the points you want. To select a range of points; that is, non-neighboring ones, click the first point, hold down the Shift key or the Ctrl key, and then click each additional point you want.
  • Circular: Click to drag a selection circle around the points you want. Any points touching the selection area are included .
  • Area: Click point-to-point to draw a selection area, and then double-click to close the selection area. Any points touching the selection area are included.

Vector Editing toolbar button Vector Editing Toolbar Display the Vector Editing toolbar, which features tools you can use to interactively work with shapes.

New Shapes button New Shapes Add one or more shapes to the currently selected or active image.
Click the arrow to select from the following according to the shape you want:
  • Point
  • Line
  • Polygon
  • Rectangle
  • Ellipse

New Text button New Text Click to open the Text Editing Tools window, in which you can define the text you want to add to the currently selected or active image.

Raster Erase button Raster Erase Remove one or more shapes from a training site.
Click the arrow to select from the following according to the shape you want to remove:
  • Line
  • Trace
  • Polygon
To view and make changes to the settings, click Erase Settings. For information about the Erase Settings window, see About the Erase Settings window.

Raster Editing button Raster Editing Open the Raster Editing window, in which you can replace the pixel values in an image with a value you specify.

For more information about the Raster Editing window, see Opening the Raster Editing window.

Spatial Query button Spatial Query Search visible layers to select shapes.
Click the arrow to select from the following according to how you want to search:
  • Fully Within
  • Partially Within
  • Within Distance
  • Fully Within Distance
  • Intersect
  • Query by Example
To include shapes in your selection, make sure a check mark appears beside Add to selection. For more information about including shapes in your selection, see Including an original selection in a spatial query.

Map Layer Selection button Map Layer Selection Select by type layers on which you want to perform operations.
Click the arrow to select from the following according to the type of layer you want:
  • All Layers
  • All Rasters
  • All Vectors
  • All Bitmaps

Enhancement toolbar

The Enhancement toolbar features tools you use to apply enhancements to imagery and increase or decrease brightness and contrast.

Button Name Description
None button Enhancements Apply an enhancement to a selected image.

Enhancements make the image on the screen clearer and easier to interpret without changing the actual values of the image file.

Click the arrow to select from the following according to the enhancement you want:
  • None
  • Linear
  • Root
  • Adaptive
  • Equalize
  • Infrequency
  • Tail Trim
  • Exclude Min/Max
  • Set Trim %

Contrast button Contrast Adjust the light and dark extremes in the images.

To increase or decrease the light and dark extremes, click the arrow beside Contrast, and then click Increase Contrast, Decrease Contrast, or Reset Contrast, as applicable.

Brightness button Brightness Adjust the overall luminosity (amount of light) in the images.

To increase or decrease overall luminosity, click the arrow beside Brightness, and then click Increase Brightness, Decrease Brightness, or Reset Brightness, as applicable.

Advanced Contrast and Brightness button Advanced Contrast and Brightness Open the Advanced Contrast and Brightness window, in which you can do the following:
  • Brighten or darken an image
  • Increase or decrease the difference in shading (the contrast)
  • Add or remove red
  • Add or remove blue
  • Add or remove green

View Mode toolbar

The View Mode toolbar features tools you use to switch between viewing modes: map or area.

Button Name Description
Map View Mode button Map View Mode Switch the display to Map View mode (most suitable when working on map projects).
Area View Mode button Area View Mode Switch the display to Area View mode (most suitable when working on data files).

Display toolbar

The Display toolbar features tools you use to select colors and styles of symbols, lines, areas, and text.

Note: The appearance of each button on the Display toolbar varies according to the color or style selected currently.
Button Name Description
Set Symbol Color button Set Symbol Color Click to apply the displayed color, or click the arrow to open a palette from which you can pick a color to apply to a selected symbol.
Set Symbol Style button Set Symbol Style Click to apply the displayed style, or click the arrow to open a palette from which you can pick a style to apply to a selected symbol.
Set Line Color button Set Line Color Click to apply the displayed color, or click the arrow to open a palette from which you can pick a color to apply to a selected line.
Set Line Style button Set Line Style Click to apply the displayed style, or click the arrow to open a palette from which you can pick a style to apply to a selected line.
Set Area Color button Set Area Color Click to apply the displayed color, or click the arrow to open a palette from which you can pick a color to apply to a selected area.
Set Area Style button Set Area Style Click to apply the displayed style, or click the arrow to open a palette from which you can pick a style to apply to a selected area.
Set Text Color button Set Text Color Click to apply the displayed color, or click the arrow to open a palette from which you can pick a color to apply to a selected text item.
Set Text Style button Set Text Style Click to apply the displayed style, or click the arrow to open a palette from which you can pick a style to apply to a selected text item.

Toolbar display

If necessary, you can turn off or on the display of one, some, or all toolbars.

To turn off or on the display of one or more toolbars
  • Right-click a toolbar, and then click the toolbar you want to turn off or on.

    That is, to turn off the display, click to remove the check mark beside the toolbar name.

To restore the toolbar display to the system default, right-click a toolbar, and then click Reset to Defaults.
