Applying advanced contrast and brightness

In addition to the individual Contrast and Brightness buttons on the Enhancement toolbar, you can make even finer adjustments by clicking Advanced Contrast and Brightness.

Figure 1. Advanced Contrast and Brightness

Advanced Contrast and Brightness button

In the Advanced Contrast and Brightness window, you can move one or more of the available sliders to:
  • Brighten or darken an image
  • Increase or decrease the difference in shading (the contrast)
  • Add or remove red
  • Add or remove blue
  • Add or remove green

When the active or selected map layer is in grayscale, the Red, Green and Blue sliders are locked; that is, the sliders move in unison regardless of which one you drag. When you have a multiple selection—some grayscale and some RGB map layers—the sliders are also locked together.

When the active map layer, or one of a selected group of map layers, does not support contrast and brightness—a layer is neither grayscale nor RGB—the Advanced Contrast and Brightness window displays in an unavailable state.

To set up advanced contrast and brighness

  1. On the Enhancement toolbar, click Advanced Contrast and Brightness.

The Advanced Contrast and Brightness window appears.

  2. To adjust Contrast, Brightness, Red, Green, or Blue, move the slider to the left to decrease the effect or to the right to increase the effect, as applicable.

Notice that the viewer is updated in real time with the effect.

  3. If necessary, you can do either or both of the following:
    • To save the settings to memory, click Save to Memory.
    • To compare the effect of the the current settings witth those in memory, click Switch with Memory.

You can click Switch with Memory as often as necessary. This essentially "toggles" the display between the saved and current settings, so you can compare the differences in real time.
