Controlling the cursor

With Cursor Control, you can determine the location of the cursor in the view pane.

In the Cursor Control window, the cursor position in four different coordinate systems is displayed. You can move the cursor in any of the supported systems by changing the associated coordinates.

Under Paper, values for X and Y denote the paper size of the map. The size can be set larger than the viewing area in which the imagery is displayed. You can change the paper size by right-clicking the map name (Map name icon <map_name>), and then clicking Properties. In the Map Properties window, click the Page Setup tab, and then specify the size you want.

You can use cursor control in Map View Mode and Area View Mode. If more than one file is open in the view pane, the coordinates displayed in the Cursor Control window represent the selected database file. The file origin, (0,0) is the top left of the image or file. If the projection has not been set for a file, the database coordinates are not displayed.

Under Geocoded, the cursor coordinates are displayed in geocoded coordinates (E for eastings and N for northings) according to the geocoding shown in the Cursor Control window. If the open data has no associated geocoded location, it is defined as pixels and lines. The units displayed indicate the geocoding type.

Under User Defined Projection, the default value Long/Lat shows the coordinates when sufficient geocoding information is available for the viewed data. Typically, UTM data with a valid zone number must be provided for this transformation to occur. If a projection is not set, the user-defined projection coordinates are not displayed.

Note: You must have a file open to set up cursor control.

To control the cursor

  • On the toolbar, click Cursor Control.

    The Cursor Control window appears.

The cursor-control information shows both the location on the Map page and the georeferenced ground location represented in the image.
