This demo showcases how Sentinel-1 InSAR can be used to monitor structural deformation on critical infrastructure such as the Carola Bridge in Dresden, Germany. By analysing repeat satellite radar observations, InSAR can detect subtle displacement associated with structural degradation, settlement, and long-term deformation trends at millimetre-scale precision. This capability supports improved situational awareness for asset owners, structural engineers, and infrastructure risk management programmes.
This demonstration presents cumulative displacement, in mm, derived from Sentinel-1 InSAR across the Carola Bridge and the three neighbouring Elbe river crossings in Dresden. The dataset captures deformation trends observed between January 2021 and September 2024, including the displacement signal subsequently linked to the bridge's collapse.
