Software packages normally offer a variety of licensing methods and platforms that will adhere to any users required configuration; CATALYST Professional is no different. Included within this document you will be able to determine the various licensing methods that PCI offers and the differences between them.
STANDALONE LICENSE CONFIGURATION
- Most common installation type
- Software will be installed, licensed and used locally on a dedicated machine
STANDALONE DONGLE-LESS LICENSING (DEFAULT)
- License is tied to a variation of hardware configurations
- License cannot be moved between machines as fingerprint is based on hardware configuration of machine it was originally installed on
- Configuration is for both Windows and LINUX
- Linux fingerprint will be similar to 10-*
- Windows fingerprint will be similar to 14-*
STANDALONE DONGLE-BASED LICENSING
- Licenses tied to a dongle (interlock device). From this you are able to transfer dongle (and license) between machines, since it has no bearing on the original machine it was installed
- Only programmable dongles can be used within this configuration and fingerprint will be similar to 100-*
- Configuration for Windows only, as LINUX does not use dongles
- To receive a dongle, the customer will be charged shipping and handling, during original purchase
FLOATING LICENSE SERVER AND CLIENT CONFIGURATION
- Within this configuration a license server will be installed on a dedicated machine and will hand out license ‘tokens’ to client installations located throughout your network
- License server and client installations must be located within the same network in order to gather a license ‘token’
- You can install as many client installations as desired, but only the maximum amount of purchased licenses may run the software simultaneously
- License server and clients can be installed on either LINUX or Windows platform
- Configuration supports cross-platforming. License server can be installed on Windows and host out to LINUX clients, as well as Windows, or vice versa.
- Windows license servers are tied to a dongle (non-programmable) with a fingerprint similar to 80-*. From this you are able to transfer dongle (and license) between machines, since it has no bearing on the original machine it was installed on
- LINUX license servers are tied to a variation of the hardware configuration and will have a fingerprint similar to 14-*
PROGRAMMABLE DONGLE
These specialized dongles are only used within a standalone dongle- based installation. They utilize a customized program (generated in-house) that creates a unique cpu id (or dongle id). These can be either USB or parallel port dongles and will have SRB10077 on the back of the dongle, which is unique to PCI.
NON-PROGRAMMABLE DONGLE
These dongles come pre-programmed from Sentinel and will only have a fingerprint value, not a CPU id. They are the only dongle that can be used within a floating license server configuration. To identify these, they will be a USB dongle and will be a black shell with a purple stripe up the middle. Some of them will have ‘PCI Geomatics’ on the back. All of them will also have an S/N number.
