Introduction to projections and Earth models

Projections are required to tie down an image to the Earth's surface. After defining the required projection information and correcting the image to overlay the projection bounds, you can transform image equirectangular pixel and line coordinates to produce equirectangular projection easting and northing coordinates. These can then be transformed with the projection formulas to produce equivalent nonequirectangular longitude and latitude coordinates.

You can also transform longitude and latitude coordinates to projection easting and northings and image database pixel and line coordinates.
