Working with layers

In Focus, geographic features and their attributed data are stored in layers. Each layer of information can represent either a single set of geographic information, such as hydrography, or a combination of information features.

With a layer, raster and vector data are stored like areas stored in maps. Layer information can be displayed and can consist of lines, polygons, and symbols that represent project information. You can build a map by placing one layer on top of another. On the Maps tab, each layer appears as a branch of an area.

With layers you can organize and edit the features in a map. You can separate a map into several layers, each containing a portion of the overall content. Most layer tasks are specific to the layer type, such as a vector layer, but many are common to both image and vector layers.
