Editing an existing job

If necessary, you can make changes to an existing job. Primarily, this consists of editing the user comment. That is, depending on the state of the job, you can edit only those fields displaying an Editable icon (Editable icon) beside the field label and, depending on the state of the job, not all of the fields can be edited.

You can edit these fields in the states indicated:
  • User Comment: any state
  • Named Tags: any state
  • Priority: in Pending and Ready states only
  • Scheduled for: in Pending and Ready states only
  • Server: in Pending and Ready states only
  • Confine child jobs to same server: in Pending and Ready states only

Named Tags is a list of zero or more name=value pairs, each separated by a comma. All names and values are normalized. Names are normalized by converting all characters to lower case, and spaces are converted to `_`. Values are normalized by adding double quotes around them if there are spaces, all leading an trailing white space is deleted, all white space in the middle are compressed to a single space, and all characters are converted to lower case.

If you want to make more comprehensive changes to the job, you must resubmit it. For information on resubmitting a job, see Resubmitting (copying) a job.

To edit a job

  1. On the Jobs page, find the job you want to modify.

If there are many jobs currently in processing, you may need to run a search to find the one you want. For information on how to find a job, see Searching for a job.

  2. After you find the job you want, click the row in which the job is located.

The Job details page appears, displaying the properties of the selected job.

For more information on the Job details page, see Viewing job details.

  3. Make changes to the information, as applicable.

Depending on the state of the job, you can make changes to:

    • User Comment: enter a revised comment
    • Named Tags: enter the revised set of named tags. All jobs with the same named tag set will be affected (parents, siblings, and child jobs).
Tip: Named Tags is a list of zero or more name=value pairs, each separated by a comma.

      For example: code=123456789, location=ottawa, project="catalyst earth"

All names and values are normalized. Names are normalized by converting all characters to lower case, and spaces are converted to `_`. Values are normalized by adding double quotes around them if there are spaces, all leading and trailing white space is deleted, all white space in the middle are compressed to a single space, and all characters are converted to lower case.

Child jobs inherit named tags from their parents. When editing a job's named tags, all jobs with the same named tag set will be affected (parents, siblings, and child jobs).

    • Priority: enter a new priority for the job. The priority can be any number of zero or greater.
Tip: Entering a value of 0 (zero) designates the job as being on hold.
    • Scheduled for: enter a new date and time to start processing of the job
    • Server: enter a new server on which to process the job
    • Confine child jobs to same server: select or clear the check box, as applicable
