Working with scatter plots

You can create scatter plots for a variety of pairs of polarization channels (elements). You can use the default or customize the scatter-plot display.

When you define three parameters, you can rotate a scatter plot in the plot window around the x and z axes to view it from various angles. With two-dimensional scatter plots, the z-range is unavailable.

Note: You can rename the title of a scatter plot by, in the Target Manager window, entering the name in the Description column for the target you want to rename.

To create a scatter plot

  1. In the SAR Polarimetry Target Analysis window, expand Graphical Output (if it is not expanded already).
  2. Click the Scatter Plot tab, and then do at least two of the following:
Note: To create a scatter plot, you must select two or more parameters.
    • In the Parameter 1 list, click a parameter, and then in the Element 1 list, click an element if one is available.
    • In the Parameter 2 list, click a parameter, and the in the Element 2 list, click an element if one is available.
    • In the Parameter 3 list, click a parameter, and then in the Element 3 list, click an element if one is available.
  3. To customize the scatter-plot display, do the following; otherwise, to use the default, proceed to step 4.
    • In the boxes beside X range , type a number to define the x-value range displayed on the x-axis.
    • In the boxes beside Y range , type a number to define the y-value range displayed on the y-axis.
    • In the boxes beside Z range , type a number to define the z-value range displayed on the z-axis.
  4. Click Plot.

To change the angle of the plot, drag the X rotate slider, the Y rotate slider, or both, and then click Plot again.

Note: On the Preferences menu, when Plot Options is Interactive, the scatter plot is displayed in Gnuplot, a third-party software program distributed with CATALYST Professional. Gnuplot provides you with additional control over the plot settings, such as the display of x and y values in the histogram. You will find Gnuplot in the thirdparty folder of your CATALYST Professional installation.
