Working with histograms

You can create histograms for a variety of decomposition parameters and polarization channels (elements). You can use the default or customize the histogram display. You can also view specific x and y values in the histogram.

Note: You can rename the title of a histogram by, in the Target Manager window, entering the name in the Description column for the target you want to rename.

To create a histogram of the response on a target

  1. In the SAR Polarimetry Target Analysis window, expand Graphical Output (if it is not expanded already).
  2. Click the Histogram tab.
  3. In the Parameter list, click a parameter.
  4. In the Element list, click an element, if one is available.
  5. To customize the histogram display, do the following; otherwise, to use the default, proceed to step 6.
    1. In the boxes beside X Range, type a number to define the x-value range displayed on the x-axis.
    2. In the Number of bins box, type a number to define the range of x-axis values to include in each bar of the histogram, the x-value range displayed on the x-axis, and the size of the space between bars.
    3. To change the scale of the y-axis value to percentage units, select the Percent scale check box.
  6. Click Plot.

The histogram is displayed in the plot window.

Note: On the Preferences menu, when Plot Options is Interactive, the histogram (and all the graphs) is displayed in Gnuplot, a third-party software program distributed with CATALYST Professional. Gnuplot provides you with additional control over the plot settings, such as the display of x and y values in the histogram. You will find Gnuplot in the thirdparty folder of your CATALYST Professional installation. For more information about Gnuplot (v4.4), including a PDF of the documentation you can download, go to gnuplot.info.
