Applying color balancing

If necessary, you can apply color balancing to the pixels inside the polygon to match that of the surrounding area.

Note: When applying color balancing, you must do so before you paste the copied or filled pixels, and you cannot do so in conjunction with applying exposure correction.

To apply color balancing

  1. In the viewer, draw or select the polygon in which you want to apply color balancing.
  2. On the Color Balancing tab of the Smart GeoFill window, in the Method list, select how you want to apply the color balancing:
    • Overlap area: matches the overlapping areas of the source and destination pixels.

If you select this option, type or select a value in the Match width box, if necessary, to represent the width, in pixels, around the selected polygon. The adjustment statistics to balance the color are derived from the pixels in the width you specify.

    • Histogram trim: matches the histograms between the source and destination pixels.

If you select this option, type or select a value in the Match width box to represent the width, in pixels, around the selected polygon. The adjustment statistics to balance the color are derived from the pixels in the width you specify. In the Tail trim box, type or select a value to represent the percentage to exclude from each end of the histogram.

To preview the effect, click Apply.

  3. If you intend to experiment with an alternative source image or create a new polygon, and you want to use the color balancing you have set up, click the Automatically apply color balancing check box.

That is, the color balancing will be applied automatically to any new source image you select or new polygon you draw, subsequently.

  4. To fine tune the appearance of the copied pixels, drag the Contrast and Brightness sliders, as applicable.
