If you do not want to use the minimum and maximum values as end points when applying an enhancement, apply Exclude Min/Max.
For example, the following table shows a simple PCIDSK file with only seven pixels and one line. When Exclude Min/Max is selected, the lowest and highest digital number (DN) values (excluding the outliers 0 and 255) are stretched to 0 and 255. When Exclude Min/Max is not selected, the original minimum and maximum values are used as end points. The remaining values are stretched with respect to this range.
| Pixel number of line 1 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
| Raw data DN | 0 | 5 | 50 | 51 | 52 | 60 | 255 |
| Enhanced DN Exclude Min/Max | 0 | 0 | 127 | 140 | 153 | 255 | 255 |
| Enhanced DN Include Min/Max | 0 | 170 | 212 | 216 | 221 | 255 | 255 |
