You can specify where a unit of measurement is displayed on a scale bar and which tick represents zero.

To select label units of measurement and start tick

In the Scale bar Properties window, click the Division tab, clear the Automatic divisions check box, and then click Advanced.
The Scalebar Divisions - Advanced window appears.

Do one or more of the following:
- To display the unit of measurement to the left of the scale bar, click the Place units at start of scale bar check box, and then select a unit of measurement from the Label list.
- To display the unit of measurement to the right of the scale bar, click the Place units at end of scale bar check box, and then select a unit of measurement from the Label list.
- To create a style for the label, beside Label style, click the button, and then create a label style (see Selecting a style).
- In the Zero is at tick box, type or select a number of the tick on your scale bar where you want the zero mark to appear.
