Understanding cutlines

A cutline is a polygon that outlines the portion of an image to use in a mosaic.

When you create a mosaic, crop the images so that the best portions join seamlessly.

As you add the cropped images to the mosaic area, the data in overlapping areas is covered by the most recent addition. Areas in which several images overlap provide you with more opportunities to find the best location for the cutlines. When you save the project, the cutlines are saved with their corresponding images.

To make the seams between images less visible, select features consistent in tone and texture, low to the ground, uniform in appearance, and conspicuous, such as roadways and river edges. Features that display clear boundaries provide natural camouflage for the seam.
