In the Layer Manager window, the properties of the layers are listed in a table format for each object in the map and the hierarchical structure of maps, areas, and layers. With surrounds, only the surround elements are displayed.
This feature is useful when you are trying to manage a large combination of data layers, rasters, and vectors when making a map. You can easily control the vector-layer hierarchy to ensure that the layer you want is not obscured by another.
