Using attribute visualization

An alternative to creating a condition in the Object Analyst Condition Builder window is to use attribute visualization. In the Attribute Visualization window, you can select the vector objects (polygon segments) in the vector layer based on a given attribute (field) and its value range (filter).

You select the field you want, and then define the range. The polygon segments in that range are then selected in the viewer. Changing the range value reapplies the filter. You can see the effects of the selected filter, and experiment to select the one most suitable.

Note: When you select a class field and its value, the range filter is applied to the polygons of the selected class. If there is no class field, the range filter will be applied to all polygons.

To use attribute visualization

  1. In the Object Analyst window, set up the rule-based classification, and then under Parameters, select the Specify condition check box, and then click Attribute Visualization.

    The Attribute Visualization window appears.

  2. In the Class field list, select the field you want.
  3. In the Class filter list, select a value of the class field you want to use as a filter.

The range filter, when selected, will be applied to the polygons of the selected class.

  4. In the Range field list, select an attribute.

The range filter, when selected, will be applied to a subset of polygons; otherwise, it will be applied to all polygons.

  5. To select a minimum and maximum value for the range, drag the Minimum Value and Maximum Value sliders, respectively.

Alternatively, you can type or select a value in the boxes to the right of the sliders. Notice the viewer is updated automatically as you drag the sliders or otherwise enter minimum and maximum values.

  6. To create the range condition, click Select, and then click Close to return to setting up Rule-based Classification.
