Changing the location and style of the grid headings

Headings are numbers, letters, or both positioned on the edges of the grid that identify the lines or sections of the grid.

To change the location and style of the grid headings

  1. In the Grid Properties window, click the Headings tab.
  2. Under Location and Appearance, click the Top, Right, Left, or Bottom check boxes, as applicable, to select where you want the headings to appear.
  3. Click Style, and then create a style for the text.

For more information about text styles, see Selecting a style.

  4. In the Distance from grid box, type or select a number representing the space that you want between the grid border and the headings, and then in the list to the right, click the relevant unit of measure.
  5. Under Type, click an option, as applicable:
    • Geo style aligns the headings with the grid lines. To select a new format, click Format.
    • Paper style centers the headings between the grid lines. To select a new format, click the Rows or Columns list, as applicable, and then select the format you want.
By default, headings are top down, left to right. To reverse the order, select or clear the Reverse check beside Rows, Columns, or both.
  6. Under Orientation, click an option, as applicable:
    • Default orientates the heading labels to the PCI default. With the Paper, Long/Lat and Geographic headings, the labels are horizontal to the map except the major Northing headings, which are vertical to the map.
    • Parallel orientates the heading text with its baseline parallel to the nearest edge of the grid border.
    • Perpendicular orientates the heading with its baseline perpendicular to the nearest edge of the grid border.
