Projection/Extents tab

On the Projection/Extents tab, you can change the projection definition of the area, change the bounds of the area, and rotate the area. Changing the projection definition does not change the projection of the area. To change the projection, see Reprojecting files.

Tip: For more information about projections, Earth models, datums, and ellipsoids, see Introduction to projections and Earth models.

Coordinate System
The coordinate system of the area.

The available coordinate systems are as follows:
  • Pixel
  • UTM
  • Long/Lat
  • Meter
  • Foot
  • SPCS
  • Other

Earth Model
Click to open the Earth Models window, in which you can select from a list of data and ellipsoids to define a coordinate system for the area.

More
Available when UTM, SPCS, or Other is the selected coordinate system, click to open a projection-definition window specific to the projection type, and then select a projection definition for the area.

When you select this coordinate system This window appears
UTM Earth Models, UTM Zones
SPCS State Plane Zones
Other Other Projections

Bounds
When UTM, SPCS, or Other is selected as the coordinate system, the bounding coordinates of your file in either geocoded (eastings and northings) or geographic (latitude and longitude) units.

With Long/Lat is selected, the bounding coordinates are displayed in geographic units only. With Meter and Foot, the bounding coordinates are displayed in geocoded units only. With Pixel selected, the bounding coordinates are unavailable.

Upper Left
The boxes to the right display the x and y coordinates of the upper-left corner of the area.

The values are in the units of the selected coordinate system.

Lower Right
The boxes to the right display the x and y coordinates of the lower-right corner of the area.

The values are in the units of the selected coordinate system.

Rotation
The amount by which the area is rotated to display a rotated raster such that the first pixel of the data is at the top-left corner based on the selected unit of measure.

To change the rotation, type the amount by which to rotate the area in the available box, and then in the list to the right, select the unit of measure you want.

For more information about rotation, see About rotated rasters.

Under Visual Clipping:
  • Define Clip Region
Click to open the Define Clip Region window, in which you can select a region from a list of available fall within the area.

For information about selecting a clip region in the Define Clip Region window, see Selecting a clip region.

  • Enable
Available after you select a clip region, select the check box to activate the clip region in the area.
