Formating fixed-width files

If necessary, you can format the file in fixed widths.

To format fixed-width files

  1. In step 1 of the wizard, with the text file you opened , under Data format, click Fixed width.
  2. Select the header row or rows and whether you want to use all records or a range.
  3. Click Next.

    Step 2 of the wizard appears.

  4. Under Field Widths, in the Width row, click the box below the numerical identifier, and then type a number representing the width you want to allocate to the field.

    For example, in the box below, 1, type the width you want.

  5. Press Enter.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and until all fields are added and formatted properly.
  7. Click Next.

    Step 3 of the wizard appears.

  8. Proceed to Step 3: Selecting coordinate fields, projection, and fields to import.
