Selecting files

When you want to select a file, such as to open or save, you do so in the File Selector window. In the Files of type list, you can view the available file types from which you can select, depending on the specific task at hand. That is, the available formats vary according to whether you are, for example, opening or saving a file.

Depending on the location from which you open the File Selector window or the task your are performing, you may also be able to select data of a specific format defined by a folder by clicking Choose Directory.

A particularly handy feature of the File Selector window is the Remote Data Wizard. When available, this feature stores all of the information necessary to connect to a remote server. If necessary, you can even test the connection to a remote server by opening the available Connection Manager window. For more information, follow the links under Related Tasks or, in the relevant window, click Help.

To use File Selector
  • In the File Selector window, do one of the following:
    • To open a file, select the folder containing the file you want in the Look in list, select the file, and then click Open.
    • To save a file, select the folder you want in the Look in list. In the File name box, type a name for the file, select a format in the Files of type list, if necessary, and then click Save.
Tip: You can also type the full path and file name of the file in the File name box, and then click Open.

Many CATALYST Professional programs also support entering an MFILE as a file of type to open. For more information about using this type of file, see:
