Projection tab

The Projection tab displays the projection1 of the associated file. If necessary, you can change make changes to the projection attributes.

Tip: For more information about projections, Earth models, datums, and ellipsoids, see Introduction to projections and Earth models.

Coordinate system

If necessary, you can select a new coordinate system for the file.

You can choose from the following:
  • Pixel
  • UTM
  • Long/Lat
  • Meter
  • Foot
  • SPCS
  • Other
To select a new coordinate system
  1. To the left of the Earth Model button, click the list, and then select the coordinate system you want.
Depending on the system you select, you may be required to select additional information:
    • If you select Pixel, you need not select any additional items. Proceed to the next step.
    • If you select UTM, the Earth Models window appears. On either the Datums or Datums tab, as applicable, click the datum or ellipsoid you want.
    • If you select Long/Lat, you need not select any additional items. Proceed to the next step.
    • If you select Meter, you need not select any additional items. Proceed to the next step.
    • If you select SPCS, the State Plane Zones window appears. Click the zone you want.
    • If you select Other, the Other Projections window appears. On either the Generic Projections or User Projections tab, as applicable, click the projection you want.
  2. Depending on the coordinate system you selected, click the Bounds list, and then select either Geocoded or Geographic, as applicable.

Geocoded bounds are the upper-left and lower-right coordinates in easting and northing; geographic are longitude and latitude. If necessary, you make changes to the coordinates.

Redefining the Earth model

If necessary, you can redefine the Earth model.

To redefine the Earth model
  1. Click Earth Model.

    The Earth Model window appears.

  2. Do one of the following:
    • To select a new datum, on the Datum tab, click the datum you want, and then click OK.
    • To select a new ellipsoid, click the Ellipsoid tab, click the ellipsoid you want, and then click OK.

Depending on the selected the coordinate system, you can also click More to select a new UTM zone, state-plane zone, or another projection altogether.

Changing rotation

If you need to adjust the rotation of the image, you can do so in the boxes beside Rotation.

To adjust the rotation
  • In the Rotation box, type the value by which you want to rotate the image, and then in the list to the right, click the measurement system that corresponds to the value you typed.

For example, to adjust the rotation by 5 degrees, type 5 in the Rotation box, and make sure the measurement system is Degrees.

For more information about changing rotation, see About rotated rasters.

Image resolution

Pixel Size X and Pixel Size Y display the x and y resolution of the image. You cannot make changes to these values.
