General tab

On the General tab, you can view and make changes to generic information about the thematic layer, whether the layer is writable, visible, and selectable, and the priority.

Name
The file name and description of the layer.

The information in the Name box, which you can modify, if necessary, is displayed on the Maps tab.

Read-only
By default, the layer is writable; that is, the Read-only check box is clear.

To make the layer read-only, select the check box.

Visible
By default, the layer is visible; that is, the check box is selected (and the layer is displayed on the Maps tab).

To hide the layer, clear the check box.

Selectable
By default, the layer is selectable; that is, the check box is selected, indicating shapes in the layer can be selected (for modification, removal, and so on).

To prevent all shapes in the layer from being selected, clear the check box. This is a handy way to "lock" selected shapes. By default, all shapes on the layer are included; however, you can also apply the feature to one or more shapes in the layer. To do so, select the shapes you want by using Selection Tools, Find (Vector Editing), or in Attribute Manager, and then make sure the Selectable check box is clear (to lock the selection) or selected (to modify the selection), as applicable.

Priority
The priority of the layer in the project or file.

To specify a priority, type or select the priority number you want in the Priority box.

For more information about the priority of a layer, see Reordering layers.
