Data product name and description

Capella has two products:
  • SLC: Single Look Complex
  • GEO: Geocoded Terrain Corrected
Capella has three imaging modes:
  • Spot: Spotlight
  • Site: Sliding Spotlight
  • Strip: StripMap

Site SLC is not supported by GDB.

Note: The information provided herein is based on the data distributor's documentation cited under References.
Mode Swath width (km) Resolution (range, m)* Polarization
Spot 5 x 5 0.3 HH
Site 5 x 10 0.5 HH
Strip 5 x 20 0.75 HH

* Resolution is always single-look complex (SLC) unless noted otherwise.

NESZ is <-17 dB. Incidence angle range is 25° — 40°.

Distribution disk files

A Capella data set is organized in a specific folder structure on disk. GDB uses this folder structure and the file names to identify the data product type.

Warning: Data sets for this sensor are organized in a specific folder structure on disk. GDB uses this structure and the file names to identify the data product type. Do not alter the folder structure or any file names prior to data ingestion to ensure the image data and auxiliary information are imported correctly.

You can open a Capella data set by selecting the *.json file (not the *_extended.json file).

For Spot and Strip SLC data sets there are four valid calibrations. One of them must be used.

For GEO data sets the calibration :Calibration Type:None is used in Focus. When running SARINGEST on a GEO data set, the CALIBTYP parameter can be either None or Sigma.

Returned data for supported format

Capella data can be opened directly in its raw vendor format or imported into a PCIDSK (*.pix) file using the key file name (*.json). For optimal processing, use the PCIDSK format.

The following table describes the data structure after it is opened by GDB. GEO data with calibration None is int16 data. SLC data with calibration None is complex float data. When a calibration is applied the data is float, real or complex as appropriate.

Data product Data returned Details
SLC int16

1 x [C16S] raster channel (uncalibrated)
—or—
1 x [C32R] raster channel (calibrated)

1 x [GCP] ground control points from state vectors
2 x [TEX] main product annotation and secondary product annotation
1 x [BIN] rational function model from state vectors
1 x [ARR] incidence angle array from state vectors

Data can be calibrated in Sigma, Gamma or Beta.
GEO int16

1 x [16U] raster channel (uncalibrated)
—or—
1 x [32R] raster channel (calibrated)

2 x [TEX] main product annotation and secondary product annotation

Data can be calibrated in Sigma.
