Using the Cloud Detection and Haze Removal module

You can detect clouds and remove haze by running the Cloud Detection and Haze Removal module.

To run the Cloud Detection and Haze Removal module

  1. On the JPS Administrator Navigation bar, click Create Job.
  2. In the list of jobs, click Cloud Detection and Haze Removal.

The Cloud Detection and Haze Removal page appears.

  3. Type information or select an option for each parameter, as necessary.

For more information on each parameter, see Cloud Detection and Haze Removal module.

  4. After you specify all of the necessary parameters, click Submit Job.

The module searches the input orthos folder for multispectral orthorectified image scenes that have been processed by using the Orthorectification module. That is, the module scans the input for file names that contain the _ORTHO_MS in the file name.

The module generates six coarse classification masks, including:
  • Haze
  • Cloud
  • Water (when the sensor contains a shortwave infrared band)
  • Saturated pixels

The module also generates a combined cloud-and-water mask.

For each haze-corrected image generated, the module creates two masks for use in mosaic preparation, and then exports them to the final atmospherically corrected image. These are:
  • Cloud mask: Used to omit invalid regions from the output mosaic
  • Water and Cloud mask: Fused vector segments, used to omit invalid regions from color-balancing operations
