The Cloud Detection and Haze Removal module determines statistics from the image and from classification masks. The module then uses cloud masks and haze masks to remove the haze. The percentage of haze cover helps to determine the influence of haze on the image; larger values correspond to larger haze coverage on the scene, which leads to stronger correction.
The haze masks and cloud masks are generated based on radiometric information contained within the metadata of the ingested images, such as gain and bias for each band, the acquisition date and time, the solar zenith angle, channel wavelength, and the geographic scene center.
