About the common Info and Start sections

The Submit new job page for each module features two common sections: Info and Start.

Info

The Info section identifies the basic information about the job.

Box Description
User The ID of the user logged on currently to CATALYST Enterprise.
Priority The priority of the job in the processing queue. If necessary, you can enter a new number to specify a higher or lower priority..

The JPS processing servers select jobs with the highest priority first. Jobs sharing the same priority level will be processed on a first-in, first-out (FIFO) basis. You can enter any value of 0 or greater.

Tip: Entering a value of 0 (zero) designates the job as being on hold.
Comment If necessary, type a comment about this job, especially if you have entered a new priority. This allows other users to see why the priority of this job differs from others. That is, this information appears in the table on the Jobs page and the Job details page, and also facilitates searching for the job.
Named Tags If necessary, enter one or more named tags.
Tip: Named Tags is a list of zero or more name=value pairs, each separated by a comma.

For example: code=123456789, location=ottawa, project="catalyst earth"

All names and values are normalized. Names are normalized by converting all characters to lower case, and spaces are converted to `_`. Values are normalized by adding double quotes around them if there are spaces, all leading and trailing white space is deleted, all white space in the middle are compressed to a single space, and all characters are converted to lower case.

Child jobs inherit named tags from their parents. When editing a job's named tags, all jobs with the same named tag set will be affected (parents, siblings, and child jobs).

Start

The Start section identifies when the job will run.

Box Description
On Server Select the name of the server on which you want to run the job. That is, by default, the system is set to <auto>, meaning the JPS will select an available server and balance the workload of jobs accordingly.
Confine jobs to same server Select this check box when you want any child jobs spawned by this job to run on the same server. When the check box is clear, any child jobs spawned will run on the server available as determined by the JPS.
When By default, your job will start as soon as possible, pending availability of a server, capacity of the server, and so on.

If necessary, however, you can set up a specific date and time for the job to run. This is ideal for setting up long-running or complex jobs to run during off-peak times.

To run the job at a specific time

  1. Click the When list, and then click Later.
  2. Click the Start Date box, and then either type the date you want (in the format shown) or select a date from the available calendar.
  3. In the lists beside Start Time, select the hour, minute, and second, respectively, at which to start the job, as applicable.
Tip: On the Submit new job page for each module, you can collapse the Info section and the Start section by clicking . To expand a collapsed section, click .
