Importing SPOT images

Because SPOT data is not delivered with prepackaged rational polynomial coefficient (RPC) data, RPCs must first be generated from the geometric metadata provided with the data product. OrthoEngine uses this metadata to generate a dense point grid by using a physical model of the SPOT sensor. A set of RPCs is then computed for the scene and stored in a rational function binary segment in the generated PCIDSK (.pix) file.

To import SPOT images

  1. In the OrthoEngine window, in the Processing step list, click Data Input or GCP Collection.
  2. Click Open new or existing image.
  3. In the Open Image window, click Add Image.
  4. In the File Selector window, select the image that you want to import into your project, and then click Open.

A message appears, prompting you to select how you want to import the data.

  5. Do one of the following:
    • To copy the source data to the generated PCIDSK file and save it with the RPC segment, click Import image into PIX file.
    • To save the RPC segment in the generated PCIDSK file with a permanent link to the source data in its original location, click Create a link PIX file.
Note: Do not select this option when the source data is on removable media (for example, CD-ROM) or a network location that may later be inaccessible.
  6. In the File Selector window, save your PCIDSK file in a folder with a file name you specify.
  7. Click Save.

After the imagery has been transferred, a message appears, prompting you to create overviews.

  8. Do one of the following:
    • To create overviews, click Yes.
    • If you do not want to create overviews, click No.
