Selecting source images

Your first step in creating your mosaic is to select the source images you want.

Source images consist of the raster data you want to mosaic. Typically, source images are overlapping and orthorectified. It is good practice to first review the images to determine which ones are best. Ideally, you want images that fully cover the area of interest (AOI).

All the images, either the ones you add or the ones in the OrthoEngine project from which you initiate creation of the mosaic, will appear in the view pane of the wizard and later in the Mosaic Tool window. The images will be displayed as overlapping footprints with labels.

If necessary, you can enter more than one NoData value for your source images. For example, to specify that channel 1 has a NoData value of -9999, channel 2 is 0, and channel 3 is 255, enter -9999,0,255. You can also, if necessary, skip a channel. For example, to specify that channel 1 has no defined NoData value, but you want to use 0 and 255, respectively, for channel 2 and channel 3, enter ,0,255 (notice the comma before the zero).

Note: At this time, any NoData values you specify apply to all source images. If you want to set a NoData value or values for an individual image, or a group or range of images, you can do so in the Mosaic Tool window after you generate the mosaic preview. For more information, see Setting NoData values for source images.

To select your source images

  1. Under Source file list, click Open.

    The File Selector window appears.

  2. Open the folder containing the source images, select the ones you want, and then click Open.
Tip: Alternatively, you can drag files from your file explorer to the Source file list box.

The images you selected are added to the project and displayed in the control pane under Source file list.

Note: When you add or remove source images, the mosaic extents are resized automatically. However, if you define custom extents, set up a custom projection, or both, the extents are not resized automatically when you add or remove images.
  3. In the Source NoData box, enter one or more NoData values, as applicable.
  4. Click Next, and then proceed to Defining the output mosaic.
