Assigning objects to a class

With a new or existing class, you can assign one or more objects to it.

To assign objects to a class

  1. In the Object Analyst window, in the list under Operation, select Post-classification Editing.

    The display is refreshed to show the settings for modifying shapes and classes.

  2. Under Type, select Class edit.
  3. Under Vector Layer, click Select, and then in the Layer Selection window, do the following:
    1. In the File box, type or select the file you want.

      If the file you want does not appear in the list, click Browse, and then select the file you want.

    2. In the Select column of the table, click the vector layer you want.

      A check mark appears in the column.

    3. Click OK.
  4. In the Class field list, select the field you want.
  5. Click Edit.

    The Class Editing window appears.

  6. In the table, select the row containing the class you want to which you want to assign one or more objects.

    That is, each row in the table corresponds to a class.

  7. On the toolbar, click the arrow beside Selection Tools, click the tool you want, and then in the view pane of the Focus window, do the following according to the tool you selected:
    • Individual: Click an object to select it. To select a group of objects, drag a selection area around the objects you want. To select a range of objects; that is, non-neighboring ones, click the first object, hold down the Shift key or the Ctrl key, and then click each additional object you want.
    • Circular: Click to drag a selection circle around the object or objects you want. Any objects touching the selection area are included in the selection.
    • Area: Click point-to-point to draw a selection area, and then double-click to close the selection area. Any objects touching the selection area are included in the selection.
  8. In the Class Editing window, click Assign.

    The object or objects you selected are assigned to the class.

If necessary, on the toolbar of the Class Editing window, you can click Undo or Redo to revert an assignment or repeat and assignment, respectively.
