Setting up the layout grid

You can select to display the grid either as dots or lines.

A grid point is the intersection of a horizontal and a vertical grid line. When the grid is displayed as dots, each dot is placed where grid lines intersect.

The grid index is displayed as a cross or thicker line to form secondary graduations of the grid and make make visual interpretation of scale easier. Index spacing is based on your grid spacing. For example, with dots as the grid type, you can set up the grid index at every tenth dot by entering a value of 10.

Snap is the ability to position objects relative to the grid when they are moved and sized (all map objects can snap to the grid).
  • With an area, the handles of the bounding box snap to the grid. The closest handle to the cursor-click position snaps to a grid point.
  • With points, either text or symbols, the insertion point snaps to the grid point.
  • Objects, such as shapes, snap the same as an area.
