The following table describes many of the common tasks you will perform frequently when working with layers on the Maps tab.

| Hide a layer | Clear the check box beside the layer.

| Show a layer | Select the check box beside the layer.

| Make a layer inactive | Right-click the layer, click Properties, and then on the General tab of the <layer_type> Properties dialog box, select the Read-only check box.

| Move a layer up or down (reorder) | Drag the layer up or down to the position you want. |
| Copy a layer | Right-click the layer, and then click Copy. |
| Paste a copied layer | Right-click the area in which you want to paste the layer, and then click Paste. |
| Remove a layer | Right-click the layer, and then click Remove from Area.
Note: The layer is removed only from the map. It is not removed from the data file.
