Color models

The following table describes the various color models you can select.

Model Description
Gray A continuum of gray values. The scale of values ranges from pure black through pure white.
RGB An additive color model, RGB is based on light emitted from a source, such as a computer monitor. The model has three primary colors: red, green, and blue. All of the on-screen colors are produced by combining various proportions of the three.
CMYK A subtractive color model, CMYK is based on light absorbed and reflected by paint, ink, and so forth. The model is used typically in printing. The primary colors are cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black).
HLS/IHS A three-dimensional model that is more intuitive based on how color is perceived. The primary components are hue, lightness or intensity, and saturation.
