Separating overlapping shapes

If necessary, you can separate overlapping shapes at the points at which they intersect. For example, if you have two overlapping polygons, you can separate the two polygons into three with the overlap area becoming the third polygon.

Note: Break Line/Polygon may affect the attributes of the shape you are editing.

Note: You cannot separate shapes with a topological layer, because overlapping shapes are separated automatically.

To separate overlapping shapes

  1. On the Vector Editing toolbar, click Find, and then click a shape.
  2. Click Break Line/Polygon.
  3. Outside of the overlap area, click the overlapping shape.
