JP2 is a particular format wrapped around a JPEG2000 data stream (sort of like JPEG JFIF is a wrapper around the raw JPEG data stream). The .jpc, .jpx and .j2k are common file name extensions to use for raw jpeg2000 data stream files. Georeferencing information can only be written into JP2 formatted files, not raw compressed image streams (like .jpc).
JPC is the raw jpeg2000 data stream. This does not contain any georeferenced information.
