Vision* GINA (GIA)

The GINA ASCII vector format can be read by the GDB library. This format is the interchange format of the Vision* GIS software. Only versions 2.6, and 2.7 can be read.

GINA format can contain many types of data with a variety of organisations. The following aspects are not supported:

• projections definition ... layers are treated as METRE or LAT/LONG coordinates.
• polygon topology information is ignored.
• network connectivity is ignored.
• indirect tables are ignored
• label information for features is ignored.
• graphic overrides for features are ignored.
• flow direction for features is ignored.

However, the following items are read:

• All features
• For each feature the feature class is read into a string attribute call FClass.
• For each feature the layer number is read into an integer attribute called Layer.
• For each feature the network number is read into an integer attribute called Network. No other networking information is preserved.
• For each feature the feature type is read into a string attribute named FType which may have a value of "p" (polygon), "n" (node), "l" (line) or "pt" (point).
• All the feature attributes are read as additional attributes.

The GINA file will be represented as having one layer for all features not associated with a table, and one additional layer for each table defined in the udb-primary section which actually has associated features. Due to the way in which attributes are represented through GDB we segregate features into layers based on their attribute scheme rather than the GINA layer number, or feature information.
