Data product name and description

Kanopus-V is an Earth-observation, minisatellite mission of the Russian Space Agency, Roskosmos and ROSHYDROMET/Planeta.

The Kanopus-V1 spacecraft and its payload became operational in August 2013.

The overall objective is to monitor the Earth's surface, atmosphere, ionosphere, and magnetosphere to detect and study the occurrence probability of strong earthquakes.

Note: The information provided herein is based on the data distributor's documentation cited under References.

The following processing levels are supported by PCI software:
  • Level 2A
  • Level 3A
Processing level Horizontal accuracy (m) Description/notes
2A Planned accuracy (SD) not less than 50 meter Radiometrically corrected images with geometry calibration, transformed into a map projection according to onboard automatic navigation system data for average height.
Various product types are available at this product level, including the following:
  • Panchromatic (PSS)
  • Multispectral (MSS)
  • Pansharpened (Complex)
3A Planned accuracy (SD) from 10 to 30 meter Radiometrically corrected image with geometry calibration, orthorectified into map projection by ground control points (GCP) with digital elevation model (DEM).
Various product types are available at this product level, including the following:
  • Panchromatic (PSS)
  • Multispectral (MSS)
  • Pansharpened (Complex)

Distribution disk files

A Kanopus-V data set is organized in a specific folder structure on disk. GDB uses this folder structure and the file names to identify the data product type.

File name convention

The file name convention of Kanopus-V data is described as follows, based on a sample file name of fr_KV1_19273_19271_01_3NP2_20_T_S_035910_030616_3.tiff.

File name segment Description
fr_KV1 Spacecraft designation (KV1 = Kanopus-V)
19273 Number of information-transmitting pass
19271 Number of imaging pass
01 Number of target equipment power-up session on imaging pass
3NP2 Information-transfer mode
20 Information-reception-point code
T Processing level code:
  • T: Transformation by average height completed
  • ORT: Orthorectification by GCP with DEM completed
S Color image attribute:
  • K: Complex panchromatic and multispectral image (pansharpening)
  • S: Multispectral color image
  • PSS1: Panchromatic image
035910_030616 Time and data output image file created
Warning: Data sets for this sensor are organized in a specific folder structure on disk. GDB uses this structure and the file names to identify the data product type. Do not alter the folder structure or any file names prior to data ingestion to ensure the image data and auxiliary information are imported correctly.

You can open a Kanopus-V data set by selecting the fr_KV1_*.xml file.

When opening a Kanopus-V data set, the files read by GDB are as described in the following table.

File name Format Required Contents/details
fr_KV1_*.xml Extensible Markup Language Yes Key file name, contains data set metadata.

fr_KV1_*.tiff
- or -
fr_KV1_*_1.tiff
fr_KV1_*_2.tiff
fr_KV1_*_3.tiff
fr_KV1_*_4.tiff

GeoTIFF Yes Image data.
Multispectral data is currently distributed as follows:
  • Single TIFF file containing 4 bands
  • Four TIFF files, one for each band
fr_KV1_*_OB.jpg Joint Photographic Experts Group Yes Image-thumbnail file.

Returned data for supported format

Kanopus-V data can be opened directly in its raw vendor format or imported into a PCIDSK (*.pix) file using the key file name (fr_Kv1__*.xml). For optimal processing, use the PCIDSK format.

The following table describes the data structure after it is opened by GDB.
