Stabilization points

When you want to ensure that certain points of the digital elevation model (DEM) are protected from change, you can do so by using stabilization points. You place the points in a polygon you are editing, such as along hill tops or the bottom of gullies or similar depressions. By placing a stabilization point on a single pixel, the pixel is locked into place and will not be changed by any of the compatible filters.

The Stabilization Points tool is best used when filtering areas of the DEM that have many similar landforms and only specific ones should be altered, such as with rocky deposits placed next to a building of the same height. By placing a stabilization point on the building, the rocky deposits will be filtered out, but the filter will not interact with the building.
