Data product name and description

Maxar-Legion (also called WorldView Legion) is an new generation, earth-observation electro-optical satellite constellation. The first two satellites of the constellation were launched in May 2024. The constellation is managed by company Maxar Space Systems.

Maxar-Legion image data is available with the following GSD levels: eight multispectral bands with 1.16 meter resolution, one Panchromatic band with 0.29 meter resolution.

Note: The information provided herein is based on the data distributor's documentation cited under References.

Maxar-Legion data image data is available in three processing levels:
  • Basic (Level 1B)
  • Standard (Level OR2A)
  • OrthoRectified3 (Level 3D)
Processing level Description Notes
Basic (1B) System-ready.

Basic products (Level 1B) provide sensor-oriented, radiometically-calibrated mono and stereo imagery for users to do their own image geo or orthorectification.

Ideal for image manipulation and photogrammetric analysis with image-processing systems.

N/A
Standard (OR2A) View-ready.

Standard products (Level OR2A) are map projected and resampled to average base elevation for image manipulation and analysis by image processing software.

Product is provided as a bundle (PAN + four MS) or as pansharpened (from three to four pansharpened bands).

Ideal for:
  1. Image manipulation and photogrammetric analysis with image-processing systems.
  2. Image viewing and feature analysis with geographic information systems
N/A
OrthoRectified (3D) Map-ready

High-quality standardized orthorectified imagery; optimized resampling, color balancing, and mosaicking doesn’t apply.

Pan-sharpening is an option.

Ortho Products ideal forimage viewing and locational reference when high positional accuracy is required.

Distribution disk files

Maxar-Legion data set is organized in a specific folder structure on disk. GDB uses this folder structure and the file names to identify the data product type.

Warning: Data sets for this sensor are organized in a specific folder structure on disk. GDB uses this structure and the file names to identify the data product type. Do not alter the folder structure or any file names prior to data ingestion to ensure the image data and auxiliary information are imported correctly.

You can open a Maxar-Legion data set by selecting the *.IMD file.

When opening a Maxar-Legion data set, the files read by GDB are as described in the following table.

File name Format Required Contents/details
*.TIF GeoTIFF Yes Image data
*.IMD Text Yes Image metadata
*.TIL Text No Text data
*.RPB Text Yes RPC information
*.XML Extensible Markup Language No Metadata
*.JPG Joint Photographic Experts Group No Browse image

Returned data for supported format

Maxar-Legion data can be opened directly in its raw vendor format or imported into a PCIDSK (*.pix) file using the key file name (*.imd). For optimal processing, use the PCIDSK format.

The following table describes the data structure after it is opened by GDB.
