Python Developer: Microservices, Database and Web

CATALYST – Earth data, simplified. We make actionable earth observation intelligence available to decision makers that seek to ensure a sustainable and manageable planet.

We are looking for a Python Developer who will work as part of a team to help design and build our CATALYST Insights platform.

  • Work with product owners, scientists and other developers to understand remote sensing science, our applications and delivery technology for radar and optical imagery
  • Excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills on services stack including Python, AWS and Azure platforms, Docker, etc.
  • Perform hands on coding using Python
  • Experience with various databases such as SQL Server, Postgres/PostGIS and libraries such as SQLAlchemy and Pandas
  • Ability to design large scale geospatial database constructs tuned for performance. Scale is in the order of trillions of observations
  • Experience working in an agile environment with multiple teams
  • Design, develop and implement web-based Python applications using a design thinking approach in an agile environment
  • Perform unit and system testing of application code as well as execution of implementation activities
  • Resolve technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, performs a variety of tasks
  • Contribute to the design and development of a highly scalable, stable production environment
  • Analyze requirements and create technical design documents that are in accordance with the company’s architecture standards
  • Ensure that expected application performance levels are achieved
  • Required Experience:
    • 3+ years of professional development experience
    • minimum 1+ year of microservices experience in a technical lead role
    • 1+ year experience with high performance databases at scale
  • Must have technical skills:
    • REST, JSON, Python, Docker, DevOps, Microservices, Serverless development/deployment on AWS and/or Azure platforms
    • Agile practices
    • Excellent understanding of high performance relational databases
    • Experience with microservices architecture
    • Ability to design, develop and implement scalable microservices based solutions
  • Nice to have technical skills:
    • Web UI design/development experience
    • C++ coding experience
    • Demonstrated knowledge of oAuth token-based authentication protocol
